Come Celebrate the Lahaina Banyon Tree’s 138th Birthday!

Posted by Conor April 13th, 2011

The famous Banyan Tree of Lahaina will celebrate it’s 138th birthday on April 24th.

The tree was planted on April 24, 1873 by sheriff William Owen Smith to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Christian missionaries.  It was brought from India, and at the time of planting, was only 8-feet high. Interview with “Slightly Stoopid” on Upcoming Lahaina Concert

The band Slightly Stoopid is returning to Maui with a show on May 21st at the Lahaina Civic Center. Describing their music as a fusion of acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop, and punk, they are one of the hottest bands around and will soon be kicking off a huge summer tour called Legalize It 2010.

The show begins at 7pm on Friday, May 21st, at the Lahaina Civic Center (1840 Honoapiilani Highway). For more information see the Facebook Event or purchase tickets on Flavorus.

Recently, was able to chat with Slightly Stoopid drummer Ryan Mora, or "Rymo" to those who are keeping up. What do you look forward to most regarding coming to Maui for the Lahaina performance?

Rymo: I’m looking forward to having a great show. It’ll be our first time playing at the civic center. I’m really stoked to eat some plate lunch and go surfing.

What do Maui Hotel ratings mean?

It seems not a day goes by that a potential guest asks me about the star rating of my property. “I only stay at 5 star properties,” some of them sniff (and, since there’s only one 5 star property on Maui, you’d be calling me, why, then?). The fact of the matter is that there exists now so much confusion amongst the general traveling public about hotel ratings that, at face value, all hotel rating systems are useless. More »
