Road to Nationals

I’ve always told myself that I’d write a blog about my experience of achieving my goal of winning the 2008 National Spearfishing Championships in Newport Rhode Island. I never got around to it because after returning home to Hawaii and having the story covered on the news and in magazines, I just figured blogging about it would be a slight overkill.

However there’s so much I’ve learned from that experience and I do want to share it incase it helps others reach their goals and I also just want to log it down so that I won’t forget the journey.

Back to Maui

Going back home to Maui is so much fun. I’ve been flying back more than ever lately, and each visit home just makes me want to return there for good. I got to spend Thanksgiving in Makawao, and it was incredible. The trade winds were up and the water was dirty, but my dad, Christy, Garrett and I decided to go for a quick shore dive anyway. All my next door neighbor wanted me to return with was a big nenue so that he could make some poke, and all I was hoping to find was a kumu or two. Low and behold, we were both in for some luck.
