Jet Skiing and Parasailing

With the end of one season, comes the beginning of a new season. Last week marked the end of the whaling season and the beginning of the lesser known–jet skiing and parasailing season.

By the way, the end of the whaling season is more of a commercial term implemented by the county of Maui and not completely official. Whales do not just magically leave once the season is over, and there are still some humpbacks swimming around, though much less frequent than in the prior months.

Many of you may have noticed the abundance of jet skis and parasailers out in full force over the weekend. During the whaling season, Maui county outlaws the jet skis and parasailing tours to keep the waters attractive for the whales. There is no reason to disturb the beautiful humpbacks who are in our waters for what seems like too short of a time. Although whale watching gets you in touch with nature and the beauty of the humpback whales, parasailing and jet skiing can be quite a bit of fun for those more adventurous types.

If you havent been parasailing, I must say it is a pure joy, particularly in Maui. While you are up in the air hundreds of feet above the Pacific, there is little to no noise and the view is spectacular. You are truly alone among the clouds and the sense of quiet and tranquility is refreshing. I am not sure if there is a better way to see the landscapes of Maui than from parasailing.

On the other hand, jet skiing is not about checking out the wonderful view from hundreds of feet above the water. Jet skiing is about having fun on the water and enjoying the adventurous pleasures of the Pacific Ocean. Although mostly a favorite by the younger crowd, I do tend to see a number of older adults enjoying the surf aboard their personal watercraft. There are number of jet skiing options on Maui and if you feel the need to jet off in the ocean, then what better time to do it than on a vacation in Maui.
