Maui Activity desk, Lahaina Ticket Company, has shut its doors after its parent company, Consolidated Resorts Inc., filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday.
In a letter sent to vendors said that, "Consolidated Resorts Inc. and Lahaina Ticket Co. will cease all operations in the state of Hawaii." The total number of jobs affected is unknown, but estimates for the Lahaina Ticket Co. were around 30 or so. Consolidated Resorts also runs a number of resorts on Maui and has majority of their business on the mainland in Las Vegas. Estimates on their job losses could exceed 700.
It is a sad day to see the Lahaina Ticket Company go under and have to shut its doors. Obviously, plenty has to be blamed on the state of the economy that we are in and it is a telling sign of what we are in, however businesses need to also learn to adapt in these environments. Yes, the economy stinks, but as the economy changes so must your business. I believe businesses on Maui need to understand there are cost-effective changes they can make (and need to make) in order to keep their businesses moving in a positive direction. Do not stick to the old ways of doing things but embrace the future and let it work for you and not against your business.
I am never happy to see so many good people lose their jobs and lives be so affected. Hopefully, the ship will soon turn its course and the economy comes back.
