Pioneer Inn Bar and Grill Review

Breakfast at the Pioneer Inn has been a staple in our family since the late 1980s and early 90s. In true Lahaina.com fashion, we decided to come back to the Inn for breakfast earlier this week.

The Pioneer Inn is located at 658 Wharf Street, Lahaina, Maui, HI 96761 across the street from the Lahaina Harbor. The Inn is the oldest hotel on the island and has one interesting historical story. I won’t delve into the history of the hotel, but for more information you can go to the Pioneer Inn.

Once you walk into the Pioneer Inn, you truly feel that you are on vacation and you sense the history that the hotel and restaurant offer. As you gaze over the menu, the morning warm ocean air breezes through the open air atmosphere of the restaurant. On this particular morning, my brother and myself decided to go with our two favorite breakfast dishes on the menu.

I went with the macadamia nut pancakes. A staple of the Pioneer Inn, these are the best Macadamia Nut pancakes on the island. The pancakes are fluffy and there is not an over indulgence of macadamia nuts to wash-out the taste of the pancakes. Topping the pancakes with their own coconut syrup adds the a little extra sweet taste that makes the breakfast very delicious.

My brother went with the Hawaiian french toast, which is my second favorite item on the menu. If you like French toast, then you will love the Pioneer Inn’s Hawaiian french toast. The bread is light and fluffy making the toast delicious. Add the homemade coconut syrup on top and you have reached perfection.

The service was atypical for Maui; very helpful and a friendly staff who are willing to handle all of your requests.

One of the best things about breakfast at the Pioneer Inn– is the price. There are not many places on Maui where you can go eat for cheap, but the Pioneer Inn is an exception. The price–compared to how good the food is–makes the Pioneer Inn a great value and a breakfast spot I will be coming to for the next 20 years.

God, I love their macadamia nut pancakes! But even better, I love sitting on the outdoor deck where you can get a little sun and heat, and seem outside, without getting toasted.

The Pioneer Inn is a must for breakfast. Portuguese sausage, eggs, coffee… the best!
