Victorino Starts in All-Star Game

In case you missed it, last night was Major League Baseball’s annual All-Star classic. Why is this of importance to us on Maui? Because our very own Shane Victorino was the starting center fielder for the National League All-Stars.

Coming off a gold glove season and a World Series championship, Victorino made his first start in the summer classic and a first appearance ever. The starters in the All-Star game are chosen by the fans showing how popular Victorino is among the spectators.

Victorino batted 7th in the lineup and went 1 for 2 with a single and he scored one of the 3 runs that the National League put on the board. Unfortunately, the American League scored 4 runs and won the All-Star classic again having not lost the contest since 1996.

The winner of the game gets home-field advantage in the World Series, and with the run by the American League, it is becoming a ritual that the American League Champion will have the advantage.

I am sorry to see Victorino’s team lose the game, but happy to see him flourishing in his career. Good luck to him the rest of the season and his career.
