The revitalization of Lahaina's Front Street continues with the opening of Mālama Kitchen, a new farm-to-table restaurant that's quickly becoming a local favorite. Located in the heart of the rebuilt commercial corridor, the restaurant sources over 80% of its ingredients from Maui farms and fishermen.
The menu changes seasonally and features Upcountry produce from farms in Kula and Haiku, day-boat fish from local fishermen, and creative Hawaiian-inspired cocktails made with tropical fruits and local honey. Standout dishes include the catch of the day prepared Hawaiian-style with coconut milk and taro, and the Upcountry salad with Surfing Goat Dairy cheese and Maui onion vinaigrette.
Chef and owner Kainoa Nakamura, a Lahaina native who returned home after the fires to help rebuild the community, wanted the restaurant to reflect both the town's heritage and its future. The interior features reclaimed wood from old Lahaina buildings, works by local artists, and an open kitchen where diners can watch the team at work.
Mālama Kitchen is open Tuesday through Sunday for dinner service starting at 5pm, with a weekend brunch from 9am to 1pm. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends. The restaurant also runs a weekly pop-up at the Napili Farmers Market on Sundays.
